In Good Taste

Every day is Thanksgiving, and not because we’re gathered around an elegant tablescape with family in November for a questionable but well-loved holiday, but because for every single day that we eat, we are thankful. Food is one of life’s sweetest essentials, but more than 10% of American households and 820 million people globally do not have enough to eat. Every meal we prepare or even grab to gobble on the run helps our bodies do just about everything – the things we can feel and the things that happen imperceptibly, on autopilot – and for that we are so grateful. Offer thanks, slow down and really relish every sensation that comes along with chewing, with rolling flavors upon a taste bud-laden tongue, smelling a myriad of aromatics, noticing the heft of your flatware and the glazes on your plates, and the satisfying feeling of swallowing those nutrients. And hey, since we’re in a global pandemic trying to find joy where we can, if you want to lie down while eating supper like the ancient Greeks and Romans did – go right ahead, we won’t tell a soul.
