Modern Designs in Resin

How and why did you start?

The brand was started as a creative outlet for Tina Frey. The first designs were bowls since there is always a use for bowls. I also wanted to work with a more unique material: resin.

Three words that embody your brand essence:

Minimal, wabi sabi, simplicity.

Tell us a little about your product origins / manufacturing processes, and your favorite part!

The designs start out being sculpted in clay. Then a mold is made and each piece is completely hand cast and hand sanded and is completely handmade in food safe, lead and BPA free resin material. My favorite part of the design process is the sculpting part since it really translates the designs in my head into a 3-dimensional object and I like the organic nature of the process.

Five things inspiring or influencing your design/creative process right now:

  1. The ocean

  2. Nature

  3. Driftwood

  4. Travel

  5. Isamu Noguchi

Do you ever feel overwhelmed, underwhelmed, or run-down creatively? How do you balance wellness and get on the ball again?

Yes, that can definitely happen.  I find meditating, going for a run or a walk in nature, or being near the ocean to be rejuvenating.  Travel also helps with inspiration.

A song to describe your new collection:

Philip Glass – Glassworks Piano Music

Design heroes?

Nanna Ditzel, Tadao Ando

So what do you think of Shoppe Object?!

It is exciting to be part of a new collective group of amazing designers and brands that is differentiating from the traditional trade show venues in New York. It is refreshing to be part of change that is new!

What’s the most cherished object in your home?

Right now, it is my new piano!

What’s on the horizon for this year? Any products or colors we should be on the lookout for?

We have a new collection of Pedestal Vessels that is a modern take on very traditional old designs, but made in a new material of resin. We are debuting a new color this year called “Fog” inspired by the summers of San Francisco. We also have a new color inspired by travels called “Palazzo Blue”.
