The flag commemorating the birthday of our complicated nation represents unity, equality, and opportunity for all who live here — these are the ideals we began with and still strive for. This Fourth of July, let’s celebrate the pursuit of our individual definitions of happiness, whatever they may be, and never stop working to make these Stars and Stripes synonymous with comfort, community, and care for all.
