Six Picks: Paul Niski of GOOD

Paul is a former Creative Director and Design Consultant, with a background in architecture and graphic design. He has worked in-house for Bloomingdale’s and the Gap Inc. And has consulted on numerous design projects across the globe including Mulberry (London), Anthropologie (Philadelphia), Gucci, Trussardi, (Italy), Wave (Bangkok), and Crabtree & Evelyn (London/CT). A native of Chicago, he has always had wanderlust, and through his extensive travel, has searched for beauty and design inspiration in the cities, towns and places that he has lived in and traveled to. When he came to Boston from NYC on a one-year design project, he could never imagine that we would be living here 20 years later — deciding to leave corporate life for a smaller more intimate project of his own. Over time the design history of New England drew him in, and influenced his design approach, aesthetic and the current evolution of his shop “good”.

What kinds of products/objects are you most drawn to right now?

I have always been attracted to ceramics. But this year more than ever, there is a return to the studio and a growing appreciation for handmade goods. There is a whole new generation of potters and ceramists in New England, producing exceptional goods. I love mixing these new pieces with our antique + vintage collection.

Favorite Shoppe Object brand discovery?

My heart is in New England, but come wintertime I have dreams of sunny California + Mexico. I love everything about MADE SOLID and the multi-cultural minimalistic aesthetic. I think I want those stools for my home!

What’s the best purchase you’ve made for yourself this year?

A $45 double-knit blazer from UNIQLO. 😉

What’s your personal go-to for retail therapy?

I am an avid lover of Flea Markets and Antique Malls. Nothing gives me more of a rush then scouring these markets.

Name an item that you can’t seem to keep in stock!

This year has been all about COMFORT. And we cannot keep Susy’s PilgrimWaters luxurious cashmere scarves in stock.
