The purpose of the brand is to create innovative, beautifully handcrafted home furnishings, but its mission is to empower artisan women in the U.S. and around the world by helping to generate sustainable income while preserving traditional skills handed down through generations. Each piece is finely crafted at every stage – from the harvesting and dying of sisal, to the intricate hand weaving and printing techniques, all the way through to the last steps of embellishment.

CENTINELLE

The neon-flavored icing on the vanilla cake of life, Centinelle is a scarves and fine goods brand born in Mexico City and based in California. Founded by Cristina Rose-Guizar, the hand-illustrated designs are influenced by her Mexican heritage, Northern California home, obsession with Japan, and love for animals. Centinelle scarves are sourced in luxurious silk, printed with eco-friendly dyes, and readily biodegradable. The scarves can be passed from generation to generation, becoming a unique heirloom piece.

YELLOW OWL WORKSHOP

Fueled by black tea and public radio shows, Christine Schmidt began Yellow Owl Workshop from her home in San Francisco. Notable for a sophisticated yet playful aesthetic, the products include rubber stamps and stamp ink pads, greeting card, a line of exquisite gold jewelry and most recently, socks. Though the product line is diverse, consistent themes of innovative function, original graphics, and bold colors emerge.

PIECEWORK PUZZLES

Piecework is a puzzle company dedicated to quality time in the great indoors. The name Piecework is a nod to the importance of the process — it’s about fitting something together by hand, working it through, piece by piece — instead of the outcome. Whether working alone or at a gathering of friends, the brand sees puzzles as a means to slow down, connect, and live in the present. By creating puzzles that are as enjoyable to look at as they are to compose, Piecework hopes to be a signal to take pleasure in each day and the simple things that make you feel good.

MAKAUA

Makaua is a company of artisans, producers, and designers working together to create beautiful handmade products for the home. They believe there is nothing as special as a handmade product, which represents a story and the person who made it. By adding the element of modern design, the brand strives to create contemporary pieces that represent and communicate this merger of tradition and timeless simplicity.
