Marimekko is a Finnish design house celebrated worldwide for its original patterns, functional designs and progressive ethos.
Marimekko was born in 1951 in post-war Finland with founder Armi Ratia’s mission to encourage optimism and self-expression in everyday life. Armi, a visionary female entrepreneur, worked with young designers who created striking avant-garde patterns. Today Marimekko’s print archive consists of more than 3,500 unique patterns and new ones are created every year.
Marimekko was one of the first brands to introduce their prints across fashion, accessories, and home categories – ultimately birthing the concept of a lifestyle brand. For almost 70 years, Marimekko has been pushing the boundaries between art, design, fashion and architecture by marrying functional everyday objects with original artworks.
