Six Picks: Danielle and Joël Cyr of JUNE Home Supply

Danielle and Joël Cyr, the husband and wife creative duo that own and operate the online home goods boutique June Home Supply, first set out to pursue more meaningful work and a balanced lifestyle way back in 2014. Joël had spent the previous 10 years working in the hospitality industry as a chef, while Danielle left her work to focus her energy on raising their two young children. Together they knew deep down that something needed to change, so they paired Danielle’s eye for design and interiors with Joël’s entrepreneurial spirit in launching June. Operations quickly moved from their home to a small studio in Winnipeg’s Exchange District, and soon more growth and transition presented itself with the opening of a storefront in the heart of Winnipeg’s downtown. Today, what first started off as a side project has become a North American tastemaker must-shop, and the quality home goods they carefully curate for both their brick-and-mortar storefront and beloved online store project the simple living they aspire to. Here, Danielle and Joël share some favorites from Shoppe On Season Two!

SIX PICKS

Wool Jacquard Socks, Nishiguchi Katsushita - “Living in a Nordic climate we’re constantly doubling up our socks during the winter months so a good pair of woolies are a must!”

The Nocturne Collection, Bellocq Tea Atelier – “Our go-to these days before bedtime. The lavender in the Nocturne blend is incredibly soothing without being overpowering. Highly recommend if you’re after a blissful night of slumber, and really, who isn’t?”

Yak Ribbed Knit Pant, Saralam – “I’ve (Danielle) resisted stocking up on loungewear during the pandemic but these knit pants are calling my name.”

Ceramic Canisters, Il Buco Vita – “Kitchen storage at its finest!”

Rope Tapers, Greentree Home Candle – “Been eyeing these for a long time now. A fun and whimsical design in stunning colorways.”

Waste Quilt, Care By Me – “Every home needs a cozy quilt for cold winter nights and this one certainly fits the bill. And we love the fact that it’s stuffed with leftover pieces of fabric that would have otherwise gone to waste (hence the name).”

What kinds of products/objects are you most drawn to right now?

We have dreams of renovating our cabin in the next few years - Danielle is currently coveting a Hinoki Soaking Tub for a Japanese inspired, spa-like bathroom. Joël would love to carry over the spa like vibes into the outdoors with a cedar barrel sauna hopefully tucked away in the woods behind our cabin one day.

Favorite Shoppe Object brand discovery?

We’re super pleased to have discovered Il Buco Vita! Having an affinity for simple European tableware we are especially drawn to their collection. But what stands out is their line of hand blown glassware, notably their Pienza Decanter! Love the unique, organic shapes that each piece takes on as a result of the hand blowing process. Makes for truly one-of-a-kind wares for your home.

What’s the best purchase you’ve made for yourself this year?

This past Spring, during COVID lockdown, we purchased a cabin in the woods that has truly become a lifeline for us in what has been one of the busiest seasons of our lives. Only an hour away from our doorstep, we can quickly escape on the weekends and spend some quality time as a family. We have also loved discovering all that the landscape has to offer, from mushroom and berry foraging to fishing off the rocks at the lake to relaxing at the nearby beach.

What’s your personal go-to for retail therapy?

Definitely any antique or vintage shops! Our favourite spot is an antique store in our city called Old House Revival which boasts 4 floors of architectural salvaged items, antique furniture lighting and hardware. An absolute feast for the eyes!

Name an item that you can’t seem to keep in stock!

Our customers can’t seem to get enough of The Double Arm Iron Candle Holder from Fredericks & Mae. They literally fly off the shelf every time we bring them back in stock! With people spending so much time at home these days I think it’s a great way to add warmth and visual interest to your space without blowing the budget.
