How and why did you start?

We started Blacksaw from a dream to create something that wasn’t size or gender-specific, it would be made from natural fibres and have no expiry date, it would be passed on for generations, it would become a #MeaningfulPossession. We love textiles, natural fibres, the environment, art, loud-minimalism and meaningful, long-lasting items, so we thought we would literally weave it all together and create Blacksaw. Tell us about Alpaca!

We make Blacksaw Blankets and throws from one of the finest materials on the planet, Alpaca. Alpaca is incredibly luxurious, durable and of course insanely comfortable. This eco-friendly material is as soft as cashmere, 7X as warm as wool, is hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking and resistant to odour, matting and pilling.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed, underwhelmed, or run-down creatively? How do you balance wellness and get on the ball again?

Absolutely! Being creative all the time requires a lot of focus and concentration. Surfing, meditation, coffee and creating a zen-like feeling in my workspace help keep my creativity flowing. Removing clutter and changing my work environment when things are feeling stale makes a huge difference as well.

What’s on the horizon for this year? Any products or colors we should be on the lookout for?

We are high on simplicity, stripping away noise like its a fine art. Rather than adding colours, we are reducing the use of them from a design perspective as well as from an environmental perspective, always focusing on the longevity of the piece and the design.  Our goal, by using more neutral colours, is to reduce the use of dye. We are lucky that Alpaca comes in 22 natural shades so we are constantly challenging ourselves to design creatively around these colours. That being said, it’s not easy and it’s a slow process but we are taking steps in the right direction.

What’s the most cherished object in your home?

A 1962 fender telecaster given to me by my late, great uncle.
