1.0 August Premiere

IMG_8099_edit.jpg

Optimism and enthusiasm outweighed the torrential rain that struck the morning of the first day of the first ever Shoppe Object in August 2018. One hundred inaugural vendors convened on our venue Metropolitan West, for three days of community building and lots of order writing. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the brands and buyers who took a gamble on our independent vision, and we’ll never forget it.

ARTIST

Sandra+Constantine.jpg

Sandra Constantine was the selected artist for our premiere show. Her piece below, Small Work No. 11, was chosen as a representation of the collective creative spirit and vitality of the Shoppe Object community.

SANDRA CONSTANTINE

Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Sandra received her degree in fine arts from American University in Washington, DC. After moving to New York City, Constantine pursued work in photography. She later transferred her creative energies to the fashion industry, resulting in a high-profile career at Bergdorf Goodman and Henri Bendel, and as one of the founding merchants of the women’s store at Barney’s New York.

Currently, her creative practice focuses on collage, combining watercolor painting, printmaking and photography. Constantine’s work has been featured in exhibitions at the 92nd Street Y and the National Academy School. She had a solo show in the summer of 2014 at Paper Trail in Rhinebeck, New York and recently completed a limited addition print, to be featured in a portfolio for the National Academy School. Her work can also be viewed at Balsamo Antiques and Interior Design. Constantine currently lives and works in New York City.

The RV outpost on the 2nd floor mezzanine sold signature coffee and other fare alongside the latest issues from favorite design publications.

Regular Visitors, located at 149 Smith Street in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, is a union of the disappearing independent mainstays of a traditional town center. It is equal parts main street coffee shop, newsstand, stationer, pharmacy, and housewares store, offering multiple reasons to walk through the doors each day.

COCONUT & COCKTAIL BAR

Coconut water is the perfect beverage for restoring hydration and replenishing electrolytes lost during intensive market browsing. We’re happy to have freshly cut coconuts, plus a cocktail bar at our shows.

GIVING

Closing in on $7,000 raised for Just Been Tested!

Our friends at Gift For Life, the charitable organization uniting the home and gift industries in the fight against AIDS via its partnership with DIFFA since 1992, launched a text-to-give campaign for New York Market Week in conjunction with Progressive Business Media and Gifts and Decorative Accessories magazine. Donations from our premiere show directly benefited Just Been Tested, an organization using social media and innovative technology to promote HIV/AIDS testing and awareness.

SOUNDS

The sweet sounds of teenage trouble washed over us with DJ HOLLYWEIRD, the New York City-based duo of artist Jill Pangallo and composer Lori Scacco. Inspired by those soft-focus teen protagonist films of the 70s & 80s (Foxes/Over the Edge/Little Darlings), HOLLYWEIRD got us feeling like we did at 15... alone in your room on a hot August night, dancing with oversized headphones on, reveling in that summertime sadness... DJ HOLLYWEIRD spun at our after-show cocktail party with these specially selected gems:

“Like Olivia Newton-John delivering pizza to a goth club.”
- no one ever
